Victoria Beckham’s strict diet has been making headlines for years, with husband David revealing she’s been eating the same thing for the past 25 years.
This favorite dish: Grilled fish and steamed vegetables.
Now, the designer and former singer of the Spice Girls has revealed in an interview with the Telegraph of Great Britain the real reason for her strict diet.
Beckham, 50, who only gave up meat at the age of eight, said she is very selective about her diet because of her skin. That’s because in her 20s, at the height of her Spice Girls fame, Beckham was very self-conscious about her acne.
Beckham says that to keep her skin glowing, she avoids certain wheat and flour, and substitutes wheat flour for cassava flour. She also uses a $3,855 Dermalux LED device for half an hour every morning.
“It was because of my skin that I became very careful about what I ate,” Beckham told the Telegraph.
When it comes to posing for pictures, Beckham said she felt nervous.
“And yes, I sure looked tough in a lot of pictures, but I was very uncomfortable.”
Now, with age, she said it has been liberating: “Was there a time when I went through all the comments about me? Maybe. But now I just don’t have time.”
Beckham said a typical day involves waking up early, getting weighed, meeting Harper at school and then arriving at the office.
Restrictive diet
David previously spoke about his wife’s diet in 2022: “Unfortunately I’m married to someone who has been eating the same thing for the last 25 years.
“Since I met her, she only eats grilled fish, steamed vegetables, she will rarely deviate from that.”
He continued: “The only time she’s probably ever shared anything that was on my plate was actually when she was pregnant with Harper and it was the most amazing thing. It was one of my favorite evenings. I don’t remember what it was, but I know she hasn’t eaten it since.”
Victoria previously revealed that she refuses to eat food cooked in oil, butter or sauces and does not eat dairy.
Meanwhile, her comfort food was a piece of whole grain toast with salt and she celebrates her birthday with a fruit cake.
“It was very sad because when you make such an effort, not only me and my team, but the bride and groom and everyone else to create a unique menu.
“Hers was completely different and based only on vegetables. And then there were some strange things that I have never seen in my life.
“She had coconut water, all the time, a bowl of mint and then on the other side hydroalcoholic gel, which is very famous now, but at the time it wasn’t because the Covid pandemic hadn’t started.”
